Sigmazinc 158 Grey
Description
Type:
Zinc (Ethyl) Silicate Primer
Volume:
20 L (Binder + Zinc Powder Pack)
Category:
Two-Pack Inorganic Zinc Silicate Primer
Usage:
Sigmazinc™ 158 is an anticorrosive primer formulated with a high content of metallic zinc, offering galvanic protection that effectively prevents under-film corrosion. It complies with SSPC-Paint 20, Level 2 requirements and is certified for ASTM A-490 Class B slip coefficient. The coating withstands substrate temperatures from –90°C up to 500°C under normal atmospheric exposure, and when suitably top-coated, protects steel substrates up to 540°C. It exhibits good low-temperature curing, impact resistance, and abrasion resistance, while maintaining excellent barrier properties. Recommended dry film thickness per coat is 75–100 µm, with a theoretical coverage of approximately 8.7–6.5 m²/litre depending on film build. The coating is surface dry within 30 minutes and fully cures in 12 hours at 20°C. Pot life is approximately 12 hours at 20°C.
Applications:
Ideally suited as a system primer for structural steel in aggressive industrial, petrochemical, offshore, and marine environments. Recommended for use on blast-cleaned steel, bridges, pipelines, storage tanks, refineries, and heavy-duty infrastructure. It can be overcoated with unsaponifiable binders such as epoxies, polyurethanes, acrylics, chlorinated rubber, and silicone-based finishes. Not suitable for continuous immersion in alkaline (pH > 9) or strongly acidic (pH < 5.5) environments.
