Epilux 555 Coal Tar Epoxy
A high-solid, two-component coal tar epoxy coating formulated to provide outstanding performance in highly saline, chemical, and severely corrosive environments. This coating offers superb water resistance and remains unaffected by alkalinity or sulphates in soil, making it highly suitable for immersion service and structures in contact with water and soil. It is especially effective when used in conjunction with cathodic protection systems.
Description
Type:
Two-Pack Coal Tar Epoxy (Amine Adduct cured)
Volume:
35 L (Base + Hardener, mixed 55:45 by volume)
Category:
High-Build Epoxy Coating with Coal Tar
Usage:
Epilux 555 is recommended for use on structural steel, pipelines, and equipment in fertilizers, refineries, chemical plants, and coastal installations. It is ideal for barrage gates, hydel penstocks, and submerged structures, where long-term resistance to water, salt spray, and aggressive industrial conditions is critical. With a recommended dry film thickness of 125–200 µm per coat (corresponding WFT 160–256 µm), it achieves a spreading rate of 3.9–6.2 m²/litre depending on surface conditions. The coating dries overnight to touch, achieves handle strength in 24 hours, hard dry in 48 hours, and cures fully in 6–7 days. Overcoating can be carried out after 24 hours, with a maximum interval of 5 days. It withstands continuous service up to 93°C and intermittent heat up to 120°C.
Applications:
Widely used for pipelines, tank exteriors, offshore installations, hydropower structures, and submerged steel components, Epilux 555 provides excellent resistance to salt water, soil contact, acids, alkalis, and solvents. Its low-sheen finish reduces glare, and it serves as a durable protective layer for steel infrastructure in demanding industrial and marine environments.
