Usage:
PPG Sigmacover 280 is recommended as a general-purpose epoxy primer in protective coating systems for steel and non-ferrous metals, including galvanized steel and surfaces with suitable shop primers. It can also be used as a sealer or tie-coat at lower film thicknesses and is suitable for immersion service and touch-up of weld seams and damaged epoxy coatings during construction. With 57 ± 2% volume solids, it provides a recommended DFT of 50–100 µm and a theoretical spreading rate of approximately 5.7–11.4 m²/litre. It dries to touch in 2 hours, has a minimum overcoating interval of 2 hours, and reaches full cure after 7 days at 20°C.
Applications:
Ideal for protecting steel, galvanized steel, non-ferrous metals, and other suitably prepared substrates in industrial and protective coating systems. Suitable for atmospheric and immersion environments, construction touch-ups, weld seams, and applications where strong adhesion and barrier protection are required. It can be used beneath compatible two-pack epoxy and polyurethane topcoats and is suitable for surfaces prepared by abrasive blasting, hand or power tools, and wet blast cleaning.
